THE CASTLE'S BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The beautiful main building is 3,600 square meters, 4 stories (lower and ground floor, first and second floor, tower room), with 41 rooms (expandable with an additional 12 rooms), situated in an unparalleled, 6-hectare, fenced, landscaped environment (English garden, French garden, Japanese garden) that is meticulously maintained.
The building underwent several renovations, and when shaping its current state in 2004, the owner aimed to remain faithful to the original eclectic style plans from the late 1800s.
In the garden, there is a 128-square-meter, two-story caretaker's villa, and in a separate building, a garage for 4 cars, a stable with maintenance room for accommodating 6 horses, and a staff room have been constructed. Additionally, a birdhouse and a corresponding fenced courtyard have been created specifically for peacocks.
The castle comes with several hectares of well-maintained grounds. The Japanese garden, French garden, and English garden exude tranquility and peace. In the park, beautiful sculptures with historical significance, unique ornamental plants, around five thousand ornamental trees and shrubs, thousands of flowers, and other ornamental plants have been planted, along with several fountains and ornamental ponds.
The castle is for sale with the entire antique furniture, which is included in the purchase price. The elegance of the interior spaces is enhanced by quality antique furniture and paintings. THE HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
The exact year of the castle's construction is unknown; mentions of a similar building in the vicinity date back to the 1300s, but the first confirmed owner is only recorded in the 1600s. Presumably, the predecessor of today's castle was a single-story medieval courtyard house, and its expansion can be traced through the changing architectural solutions of different eras.
Originally designed in the Baroque style, the castle underwent significant reconstruction in the 19th century: in 1898, based on the plans of one of the era's most renowned architects, Meinig Artur (known for projects such as the Wenckheim Palace – now the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library –, the Stefánia Palace, and the Adria Shipping Company Palace), the castle transformed into its current eclectic, historicizing style.
Through inheritance, the owning family acquired a portion of the Morosini Collection from Venice, leading to significant works of art finding their place within the castle walls, some of which remain to this day. During the early 20th century, the castle hosted not only Hungarian aristocrats but also royal princes and princesses from England and Germany, as well as Russian grand dukes.
In the 1930s, the castle underwent another renovation, departing from its previous rich, distinctive historicist architecture.
The main goal of the 2004 reconstruction and renovation was to restore the castle and its park to their original style from the 1898 period, including the mansard roof and the copper-made tower.
THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE CASTLE
The lowest level is accessible through a separate entrance. The oldest parts of the castle, believed by some to date back to the 1300s, might have been an elongated courtyard house. In the current layout, the level houses staff, service, and communal spaces: a spacious kitchen of nearly 50 square meters with an 18-square-meter pantry, an impressive, cozy 64-square-meter restaurant/wine bar, staff quarters with a bathroom, staff dining room, and an additional four living spaces ranging from 20 to 27 square meters, suitable for guest rooms if needed. In addition to these spaces, the level includes utility rooms, a laundry room, water blocks, and other storage spaces.
From this level, two staircases and an elevator lead to the castle.
On the ground floor, you'll find the impressive main entrance with an exclusive foyer of 85 square meters, a nearly 70-square-meter ballroom with a terrace, a 50-square-meter dining room, and a 50-square-meter salon overlooking the French garden. Additionally, four rooms ranging from 24 to 29 square meters, one 52-square-meter room, a concierge/guard room, and water blocks are located on this level.
The first floor includes a separately accessible suite with a 70-square-meter living room, a 20-square-meter bedroom, and a bathroom. There are also two smaller suites, a communal space, and six additional rooms comprising bedrooms and a salon.
On the second floor, communal foyer areas and guest rooms with private water blocks were designed. From here, a staircase leads up to the tower, offering beautiful views of the estate and the landscape. A 26-square-meter tower room has been established.
On the other, previously unused side of this level, up to 12 additional guest rooms can be created. In addition to the two staircases, the levels are connected by a personal lift, and a food lift has also been installed.
THE CASTLE PARK
The area features English, French, and Japanese gardens.
In the English park, a pleasant-sized grass tennis court has been created.
The French garden, which houses unique sculptures, has been restored to its original state. Here, you can find the Apollo Fountain with a dolphin, the Leda Fountain, and the swan, presumably from the 15th century, a marble pavilion, the Four Seasons composition, and Apollo with his harem.
In the Japanese garden, along with cozy Japanese motifs, you'll discover four bridges, a regulated small stream, a cave, an observation tower, a waterfall, and a Zen garden – the rocks here come from Hungary, Italy, Austria, and Slovenia.
For the reconstruction of the castle and the park, materials were imported from Syria, Egypt, Thailand, China, Brazil, Austria, Italy, India, Slovenia, Germany, and Ukraine.
The several-hectare area, accessible through five gates and divided by a small stream, features a wooded clearing on the other side of a bridge over the stream, a garden pond, and a 3-meter-deep artificial lake suitable for swimming.
SCULPTURES AND ARTWORKS
One of the castle's previous owners, the world's greatest art collector after Morosini, inherited one-fifth of his collection, some of which can still be found in the castle today, while unfortunately, some pieces are missing.
The Leda statue is considered one of Hungary's most valuable sculptures, originally located in the Doge's Palace in Venice; it underwent restoration in 2005.
The exact history of the Apollo statue is unknown, but it also originates from the collection.
The other sculptures in the French park were commissioned by the current owner.
A section of the garden features an exhibition of unearthed, unknown origin, and history torso sculptures.
OTHER SPECIAL FEATURES
The bed prepared for the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty's wedding night can be found in one of the bedrooms.
Count István Széchenyi's bookcase is also located in the castle.
The Chesterfield buffalo leather sofa set originates from a nearly 400-year-old English club.

The massive billiard table in the game room comes from an English officers' casino, nearly 300 years old.

The original stairs in the castle were damaged, so new stairs were rebuilt in the original and authentic style. The staircase at the main entrance dates back to 1619 and comes from a Vienna monastery.
The interior and its accompanying furniture collection are exclusive and antique. The furniture comes mainly from Russia, Italy, China, France, England, Denmark, Austria, and Hungary. The rugs (approximately 80) primarily originate from China and the Middle East. The paintings (approximately 400) come from Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and the castle's unique Chinese and Japanese ceramic collection.
The Japanese and Chinese porcelain collections are also extraordinary.
The facades are highly decorated, just as they were in 1898.
Trees planted in memory and honor of the Martyrs of Arad.
Likely the country's oldest Ginkgo Biloba tree.
In the Japanese garden, rocks dating 8-10 million years can be found.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The building has central heating - provided by 4 gas boilers - with an automatic system that can be used intermittently. Additionally, the 26 antique, wood-burning stoves and fireplaces work exceptionally well.
The castle has 5 chimneys.
